Using medication in psychiatry requires an understanding of both neuroscience and medical conditions, so that symptoms are adequately treated without the blunting of your emotional landscape. Our follow-up visits are an on-going evaluation of the medications efficacy, laboratory analysis, potential side effects, and to make note of changes in previous symptoms, and recognize the development of any new symptoms. We pay attention to, and minimize, when feasible, unpleasant side effects, if they occur. Medications are explained so that you know how they work, what to expect and what not to expect.

Our team of highly qualified and caring professional staff has expert knowledge of psychiatric and emotional conditions and the ability to make accurate diagnosis taking into account different personality types. Tailoring treatment to the individual requires both empathy and expertise. We are aware of and appreciate the need for reliable, productive, and individualized treatment for people suffering from psychiatric disorders, and those who love and interact with them on a regular basis.

The initial consultation will include an evaluation of current symptoms, such as: mood, anxiety, addictions, pathologic eating and conduct/behavioral disorders. The assessment also evaluates the family structure, educational or occupational functioning, medical, family, and developmental histories. Afterward, we will decide on a course of treatment. You will be prescribed a medication-if you need it. If you can benefit from, and are interested in psychotherapy, the different types will be explained.

Individual therapy is a collaborative process which helps people gain insight into their own feelings, behaviors, and life patterns. Depending on the concerns that bring you in, therapy can be highly goal-oriented and focused on a specific problem, like depression, anxiety, ADHD, etc. Therapy provides a safe, confidential place for self-exploration to better understand troublesome themes that are occurring in your life such as low self-esteem, underperforming at school or work, or relationship problems. You and your therapist may also examine significant life events and relationships, insecurities and fears, and goals and aspirations.

Couples therapy can be an important resource for partners who have concerns about the state of their relationship at any phase of life. Many couples may feel so mired in patterns of destructive behavior that they are concerned if their relationship will withstand the test of their struggles. Working with a therapist can help facilitate meaningful and productive communication patterns. This understanding can foster individuality within the context of the relationship and facilitate healing from broken trust and destructive behavior that you both may face.

We offer counseling services for adolescents, couples, groups, and adults. There are many concerns that may lead an individual or a family to seek therapy. Some problems stem from very early on, developing into patterns that seem difficult to recognize or overcome. Other problems arise suddenly and can make one feel out of control or out of touch with their values and with others.

We provide an eclectic technique of therapy catered to the patient’s needs. This can include psychodynamic therapy, problem focused counseling, interpersonal therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), or any combination of techniques. The goal of therapy is to help you safely explore what is or is not working in your life to facilitate understanding personal growth, and interpersonal success.

Counseling and therapy can include but is not limited to the following:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Worry
  • Obsessions
  • Anger management
  • Recovering from codependency
  • Grief-recovery
  • Raising self-esteem
  • Addiction recovery
  • Surviving infidelity
  • Trauma recovery
  • Schizophrenia
  • Other psychiatric disorders
